West Los Angeles College will introduce a new Asian American Studies course in Spring 2026. The initiative is supported by the college’s Asian Pasifika Desi American (APDA) Employee Affinity Group.

According to the college, the class aims to provide students with an opportunity to explore the history and cultures of various Asian countries and their influence on the Asian diaspora in America. “The neighborhoods WLAC serves have a long-standing, diverse Asian American population who have helped shape Culver City and greater Los Angeles. This class allows students of all backgrounds and ages an opportunity to learn more about the history and cultures of different Asian countries and how that has impacted the Asian diaspora in America today,” said a representative from West Los Angeles College.

Course topics will include connecting personal experiences with Asian histories and cultures, understanding how colonialism and global dynamics have influenced social, political, and economic structures in Asia, and examining issues related to cultural appreciation versus appropriation.
