Uber has announced a limited-time $12 discount on Comfort rides using the promo code “SHOWBIZ,” available for trips to listening parties, movie screenings, and other events. This was revealed in a post on X.

According to Brand Credential, Uber employs targeted promotions and partnerships to engage users beyond typical commuting rides, focusing on leisure and lifestyle activities such as evenings out or special events. This strategy aims to position Uber as more than just point-A to point-B transportation but as part of users’ social and entertainment lives. By linking discount codes like “SHOWBIZ” to event-based occasions, Uber seeks to deepen its cultural relevance and connect with rider moments rather than just rides.

The official Uber website explains that the “Comfort” ride tier includes newer vehicles with extra legroom and higher-rated, experienced drivers. The site further notes that Uber Comfort allows users to choose preferences like temperature and chatting level, enhancing the ride experience for a modest premium. This elevated tier aligns well with promotional offers such as “SAVE $12” to entice riders to upgrade for events where comfort and space are important.

A detailed marketing strategy review via Moloco indicates that Uber’s promotional campaigns often include in-app messaging, localized discount codes, and event-driven offers designed to drive incremental rides beyond baseline demand. The review highlights that Uber’s bi-weekly or monthly promotions create urgency and encourage riders to choose higher-tier services such as Comfort or Black. This suggests that the “SHOWBIZ” code is consistent with Uber’s established practice of leveraging discount-based campaigns to boost premium-tier ridership.

According to Uber’s official “About Us” page, Uber Technologies, Inc. is a global mobility platform founded in 2009 that connects riders with drivers via a smartphone app in thousands of cities worldwide. The company offers multiple ride tiers—including UberX, Comfort, Black—and also provides food delivery (Uber Eats), freight logistics (Uber Freight), and other mobility services. Uber’s mission is to “make transportation as reliable as running water” while expanding access, convenience, and sustainability in urban movement.
