The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated population estimates and projections for 21 countries and areas through the year 2100 as part of its International Database (IDB). The new release also covers demographic data for 13,671 subnational regions worldwide, which are comparable to U.S. states, counties, and townships.

Countries included in this update are Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, El Salvador, Eswatini, Guatemala, Iran, Jamaica, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Togo, Tunisia, the United States, and Zambia. According to the Census Bureau’s announcement: “New data and analyses were used to refine population estimates and projections for Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, El Salvador, Eswatini, Guatemala, Iran, Jamaica, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Togo, Tunisia, the United States and Zambia.”

The latest figures incorporate information from recent censuses and surveys as well as administrative records. Updated methodologies have also been applied to improve accuracy based on these sources.

The International Database includes demographic indicators such as population size and growth by sex and single year of age up to 100-plus years old. It also contains details on mortality rates, fertility trends and net international migration across more than 220 countries and areas globally. The IDB is updated periodically when new data becomes available.

More information about these estimates and projections can be accessed via the International Database Overview webpage at https://www.census.gov/data-tools/demo/idb/informationGateway.php.

“IDB estimates and projections can be found on the International Database Overview webpage,” according to the Census Bureau.
