The U.S. Census Bureau has released new data tables detailing the foreign-born population by generation, using information from the 2024 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC). The tables offer a breakdown of social and economic characteristics such as employment status, education, household income, poverty status, race, age, and sex for three groups: first-generation (foreign-born), second-generation (those with at least one foreign-born parent), and third-and-higher generation individuals (those with two U.S. native parents) living in the United States.
The Current Population Survey is recognized as one of the nation’s oldest and largest surveys. It serves as a primary source for monthly labor force statistics and supports additional studies that inform on the economic and social well-being of people in the country.
