The U.S. Census Bureau has released the Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for July 2025, offering updated data on new business applications and formations across the United States. The BFS is a monthly data product that tracks trends in business creation, providing both seasonally and nonseasonally adjusted figures at national, regional, and state levels.

Developed in collaboration with economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame, the BFS aims to deliver timely information about entrepreneurial activity.

The latest release includes all 12 series—four application series and eight formation series—giving a comprehensive view of business dynamics throughout the country. The full dataset is available each month for public use.

In addition to nationwide statistics, the Census Bureau has published Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications as an experimental data product. This new feature provides four monthly business application series specific to Puerto Rico using the same methodology as the main BFS release.

There was no accompanying news release for this announcement; only a tip sheet was provided by the agency.
