The U.S. Census Bureau has published the latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for January 2026, offering updated information on new business applications and formations across the United States and Puerto Rico.

The BFS is a regular data product from the Census Bureau. It was developed through research collaboration with economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

Each month, the BFS dataset provides statistics for national, regional, and state levels. The release includes all 12 series—four related to business applications and eight to business formations. For Puerto Rico, four monthly business application series are also part of this standard release. The statistics cover both seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted data.

No separate news release accompanies this announcement; only a tip sheet has been provided.
