The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has reported that the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers in the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area increased by 0.2% over the past month and by 3.2% from a year earlier.
According to the BLS, the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) for July 2025 indicated a decrease in the food index by 0.2%, with groceries down by 0.3% and restaurant prices remaining unchanged. Over the year, food prices increased by 3.4%. The energy index fell by 0.8% for the month, led by a 2.9% drop in gasoline, but rose by 1.2% over the year. The index for all items excluding food and energy rose by 0.3% in July, with increases observed in medical care, shelter, and other goods, while education and communication saw a decrease, resulting in a total increase of 3.3% over the year.
Among specific categories, shelter increased by 0.2% in July and by 3.5% over the year, while household furnishings, medical care, recreation, and used vehicles also experienced monthly increases. Education and communication declined by 0.6% for the month and decreased annually by 1.4%. Local CPI data are not seasonally adjusted and are subject to higher volatility due to smaller sample sizes than national indexes.
The BLS also reported that the national CPI rose by 0.2% in July following a rise of 0.3% in June, marking an annual increase of 2.7%. Shelter was identified as driving the monthly gain while food remained flat and energy fell by 1.1%. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, rose by 0.3% in July and showed an annual increase of 3.1%, led primarily by medical care, airline fares, recreation, household goods, and used cars.
