Community members affected by the Eaton Fire have begun receiving compensation through Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program. The first payment was issued just 45 days after the program’s launch, with more payments expected before the end of the year.
As of December 15, 2025, SCE reported that over 1,500 claims had been submitted to the program. Of these, 27 offers have been extended and accepted, and one payment has been made so far. The company stated that about 20% of claims were submitted by plaintiffs’ attorneys. The most common types of losses reported include non-burn damage (43%), total loss (40%), and partial loss (5%).
Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International, SCE’s parent company, said: “We are grateful to community partners — neighbors, local organizations and first responders — for their tireless efforts to support recovery. We committed to helping quickly, too, delivering offers within 90 days and payments within 30 days. Today, we’re making good on that promise in a fraction of the time, providing much-needed payments when the community needs it most.”
Participation in the program is voluntary and open until November 30, 2026. According to SCE, it takes about 90 minutes on average to complete a claim form. The utility says it aims to process claims within 90 days once they are substantially complete and deliver payments within 30 days after all conditions are met.
SCE provides resources for claimants online, by phone at 888-912-8528, and in person.
Southern California Edison serves around 15 million people through five million customer accounts across a service area covering Central, Coastal and Southern California.
