Snap Inc. announced on Apr. 2 that its Spotlight feature will now be called Reals, reflecting the way users share unfiltered and in-the-moment content on the platform.
The company said the change aims to better represent how its community engages with the service by posting spontaneous reactions and everyday highlights.
According to Snap Inc., “Every day, Snapchatters come to Spotlight to share what’s actually happening: unfiltered, in-the-moment, and uniquely them. So we’re giving it a name that better reflects the way our community shows up.” The statement continued, “Starting today, Spotlight is now Reals. Its the same place for spontaneous reactions, everyday highlights, and everything in between, now just with a new name that keeps it Reals.”
The update does not affect how users interact with or access this part of Snapchat; only the name has changed.
With this move, Snap Inc. signals an ongoing commitment to providing a space for authentic user-generated content as social media platforms continue evolving.
