Starting August 18, 2025, Snapchat is introducing a new feature called Home Safe. This tool allows users to automatically notify a friend when they have returned home after being out, without needing to send a message themselves.

The company says the feature can be useful in situations such as returning from a first date, attending a crowded event, or coming back from a trip. The alert aims to give friends or family reassurance that the user has arrived safely.

According to Snap Inc., privacy and safety are key aspects of Home Safe. Alerts can only be sent to friends with whom location sharing is already enabled. Notifications are sent just once and then turn off automatically. Location sharing on Snap Map remains off by default; users must actively choose to share their location for anyone to see it or receive Home Safe alerts.

“Home Safe alerts are designed with safety and privacy in mind: Alerts can only be sent to friends you already share your location with, and the notification goes out only once, then shuts off automatically. As always, location sharing on Snap Map is off by default, so no one can see your location or receive a Home Safe alert unless you proactively choose to share it,” the company stated.

To start using the feature, users need to access it through Snapchat.
