The Pennsylvania State Council of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) recently held its 2025 conference, where union leaders and delegates discussed key issues affecting their members.
During the event, IAM Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo addressed attendees about the current political climate in Washington, D.C., and its implications for union members. He emphasized the need to defend union rights. “We must continue to fight for our rights as union members and refuse to be silenced,” Addeo said.
Richie Johnsen, IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President, informed delegates that mechanics working in air transport, especially at American Airlines, are now earning record-high compensation exceeding $70 per hour. David Sullivan, IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President, spoke about how the organization is maintaining its position on behalf of members amid efforts in Washington to undermine worker rights.
Delegates at the conference expressed strong support for Janelle Stelson, a pro-labor candidate running for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 10th district. The conference also included presentations on topics such as union litigation, OSHA safety regulations, anti-union campaigns, and community initiatives.
The report from the conference concluded by stressing the importance of mobilizing members to vote for candidates who support labor interests and Supreme Court judges favorable to workers’ rights in Pennsylvania’s upcoming elections.
