Edith Aguilar, a first-generation student at Los Angeles Harbor College, has been recognized for her achievements in academics, leadership, research, and community service. Aguilar is currently pursuing a degree in Biology and maintains a 3.82 GPA.
At Los Angeles Harbor College, Aguilar has participated in several academic and leadership programs. She is involved with the Honors Transfer Program, Honors Transfer Club, Alpha Gamma Sigma, and Future Medical Leaders. In student government, she has served as both ASO Senator and Vice President. Her efforts have led to recognition from the Associated Student Organization and the MESA Program. She has also received the LAHC President’s Scholarship and the BHI (Build Hope Inc.) Scholarship. Aguilar has been named to the Dean’s List for four semesters in a row and to the President’s Honor List for two semesters.
Aguilar has also pursued opportunities outside of her college coursework. She was chosen as a fellow for the Karim Kharbouch Coding Fellowship (2024–2025) and participated in the Mayor’s Young Ambassadors Program in Peru during summer 2025. Through UCLA’s CIRC Program, she completed over 200 hours of research focusing on radiologists’ perceptions of AI in breast imaging. Other programs she joined include UCLA CCCP STEM SITE Program, Harbor Advantage, EOPS, and MESA.
Her research work includes presenting “Chronic Stress and Mental Health in Postsecondary Students” at the UCR Honors Research Conference. She attended several conferences such as the LCCM Pre-Health Conference at UCLA, ASGA Leadership Conference in Boston, and CIRC Symposium at UCLA in 2025.
Service activities are also important to Aguilar. She volunteers with Providence Little Company of Mary, Kaiser Permanente South Bay, LA2050, and LA Harbor Animal Shelter.
Looking forward, Aguilar plans to transfer to a four-year university in Fall 2026 to finish her Bachelor’s degree before applying to medical school with hopes of becoming a surgeon. She credits Los Angeles Harbor College for providing support that helped her develop academically and personally.
