Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) has appointed Dr. Matthew Jordan as the Interim President of West Los Angeles College. Dr. Jordan, who is currently Vice President of Academic Affairs at Los Angeles Valley College, has led the institution to three consecutive years of enrollment growth and secured over $8.99 million in grants since 2022.
Dr. Jordan’s career in California community colleges spans nearly two decades in various administrative roles. He expressed his commitment to his new position by stating, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve West Los Angeles College as Interim President. West’s strength lies in its people, and I am committed to leading with transparency, collaboration, and respect as we work together to advance student success, racial equity, social justice, and environmental responsibility.”
During his tenure at Los Angeles Valley College, Dr. Jordan achieved a 7% Full-Time Equivalent Student (FTES) growth in 2023-24, 10.5% growth in 2024-25, and projects a 9.75% increase for 2025-26. He also serves as the Los Angeles region representative on the California Community Colleges Chief Instructional Officers Executive Board.
His experience includes leadership in instruction, student learning, program development, operations, and institutional effectiveness. He has acted as Accreditation Liaison Officer at three colleges—Los Angeles Valley College, Los Angeles Pierce College, and Pasadena City College—and recently managed an $88 million budget while implementing strategies to resolve deficits.
LACCD Chancellor Alberto J. Román commented on the appointment: “Dr. Jordan’s deep understanding of our district, combined with nearly two decades of California community college leadership, makes him uniquely qualified for this role. His expertise spans enrollment management, fiscal stewardship, equity-centered leadership, and accreditation. Most importantly, he leads with transparency and collaboration. West LA College will benefit tremendously from his steady, experienced leadership.”
