Kin announced the results of a new survey showing that 36% of American homeowners do not bundle their home and auto insurance policies.

The survey, conducted by Pollfish, found that 61% of homeowners bundle the two policies with the same carrier, most often to save money or simplify coverage, while a sizable share remain unbundled.

The findings come as homeowners insurance premiums have climbed nationwide. The Consumer Federation of America reported that premiums rose an average of 24% from 2021 to 2024, with the typical annual premium reaching $3,303. An analysis by Forbes Advisor found that bundling home and auto insurance can generate an average discount of 14% nationally.

In a blog post, Kin said homeowners who do not bundle often cite lack of awareness about potential savings, preference for multiple providers or the absence of bundling options with their current insurer. The company said multipolicy discounts can provide more meaningful savings than many other available options.

Premium increases are also reflected at the state level. Data from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts show average homeowners insurance premiums in Texas rose from $1,987 in 2020 to $2,803 in 2023. The Texas Department of Insurance oversees insurance practices in the state, including rules affecting bundling and consumer protections.

Kin operates as a reciprocal exchange through licensed carriers, including the Kin Interinsurance Network, where policyholders own the carrier and participate through a subscribers advisory committee. The company reports serving more than 240,000 policyholders and employing over 750 people. Its carriers hold an “A, Exceptional” financial stability rating from Demotech and work with more than 40 reinsurance partners.
