Members of IAM Union Local 696 (District 19) Rail Division at the CSX Bryan Park roadway shop in Richmond, Virginia, described on April 2 their process for rebuilding heavy machinery. The workers outlined how they handle teardown, fabrication, and the assembly of complex electrical and hydraulic systems to restore equipment.

The work done by these union members is important because it ensures that rail equipment operates reliably and safely once returned to service. Their efforts support ongoing maintenance and functionality across rail lines.

In a video presentation titled “The IAM Union of Bryan Park: CSX Heavy Rebuild and Repair,” the IAM members explained their approach to craftsmanship. They highlighted the detailed nature of their work, from dismantling machinery to fabricating new parts before reassembling with careful attention to electrical and hydraulic components.

Fellow union operators praised the quality produced by IAM teams, saying that when equipment leaves their shop it “functions like a ‘Cadillac’” on the rails. This comparison reflects confidence in both durability and performance after repairs are completed.

Their focus on high standards helps maintain safety for railroad operations while also supporting job skills within the local workforce. The video aims to showcase not only technical abilities but also pride in delivering dependable results.
