IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes and Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen visited the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3) to engage with members attending organizing and leadership classes.

During their visit, Cervantes and Johnsen participated in Organizing I classes conducted in both Spanish and English, as well as the Young Workers Leadership Program. Attendees included students from various regions across North America who gathered to enhance their organizing skills and commitment to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

Cervantes emphasized the value of providing organizing education in Spanish. “It is important to hold organizing education in Spanish and ensure that all members have access to the necessary tools to lead,” said Cervantes. She also noted that her presence underscored IAM’s ongoing efforts toward inclusion, education, and member empowerment at every level.

Johnsen met with organizers and young workers, acknowledging their dedication near the holiday season. He commended their enthusiasm for union work during this time.

Participants in the Young Workers program stated that the leaders’ visit reinforced their role within the labor movement. They felt affirmed that they “have a seat at the table.”

The event reflects IAM’s focus on developing future labor leaders through targeted educational programs for both new organizers and young members.
