Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 776 gathered on March 24 to provide food and resources to unhoused individuals in the Fort Worth area. The effort, now in its third year, took place as many members prepared for upcoming contract negotiations.

The annual District 776 Homeless Drive aims to unite union members in supporting those facing hardship within their community. The event received support from Texas State Senator Taylor Rehmet, who is also a member of District 776.

District leaders said the drive reflects a long-standing commitment by IAM locals and districts to serve their communities both on and off the job. “Our retired President Paul Black shared something with me during his retirement party that I carry with me always: Never forget where you come from,” said District 776 Business Representative Eric Meriwether. “I’ve always lived by that, and it guides everything I do for our members and our community.”

Following the distribution of supplies, participants celebrated their collective efforts with classic Texas barbecue and looked forward to continuing the tradition next year.

The event highlights ongoing collaboration among union members to address local needs while balancing workplace responsibilities.
