Dr. Linda Liau, professor and chair of neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, has been recognized with the J.E. Wallace Sterling Lifetime Achievement Award in Medicine by the Stanford Medicine Alumni Association. The award honors her contributions to medicine and the biosciences.
Liau is known internationally for her work as a physician-scientist and for her efforts to improve outcomes for brain cancer patients. Her research has focused on developing immunotherapy approaches for glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive type of brain tumor. These advances have helped shape new treatment strategies that use the immune system to target tumors, providing options for patients with few alternatives.
In addition to her research, Liau serves on the board of directors of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. She was also the first woman to chair the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has held positions on the Board of Scientific Advisors at the National Cancer Institute and as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neuro-Oncology. She is an elected member of Academia Sinica and the National Academy of Medicine.
Liau holds additional roles as an investigator, director, and leader in various NCI-funded initiatives.
