The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has announced it is seeking applications for a vacancy on the Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee. The open position is for a three-year term beginning on or after July 1, 2026, and ending on June 30, 2029.
The Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee is responsible for evaluating the safety of Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. The committee reviews quarterly reports, conducts on-site inspections, and provides annual observations and recommendations to PG&E. These findings are then forwarded to the Governor of California, the California Attorney General, the California Energy Commission (CEC), and the CPUC along with PG&E’s response.
Membership on the committee consists of three individuals, each appointed by either the Governor of California, the California Attorney General, or the Chair of the CEC. The current application process is for a candidate who may be appointed by the Governor.
Applicants must have relevant knowledge, background, and experience in nuclear power plants and nuclear safety issues. Completed applications should be submitted by February 9, 2026. Once received, information about each qualified applicant will be posted on the CPUC’s website to allow for public comment over a 20-day period.
