The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has scheduled a series of public forums to gather input on California American Water Company’s proposed rate increases for water and wastewater services across its districts. The forums are intended to give customers an opportunity to share their perspectives directly with the CPUC before any decisions are made.
According to the CPUC, the public forums will be held in several locations within California American Water Company’s service areas. In-person sessions are set for January 6, 2026, in Citrus Heights; January 13, 2026, in Sand City; and January 20, 2026, in Camarillo. Each location will host two sessions at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual forum is scheduled for January 28, 2026, also at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., accessible by phone or online.
“Public input helps the CPUC make an informed decision, and the CPUC invites customers to attend to learn more and provide comment,” the commission stated.
Customers can participate by attending one of the forums or by submitting written comments online through the proceeding’s Docket Card. Those requiring special accommodations such as interpretation services are encouraged to contact the CPUC’s Public Advisor’s Office at least five business days prior to their chosen forum date.
California American Water Company is required by regulation to file a rate application every three years so that rates reflect the actual cost of providing water services. On July 1, 2025, it submitted its General Rate Case Application proposing increases that would raise average residential bills in Monterey by about $20.44 per month (16.1 percent), in Southern California by $22.56 per month (17.9 percent), and in Sacramento by $16.73 per month (22.2 percent). Additional details can be found on fact sheets available on the CPUC website.
No decisions regarding the rate increase will be made during these public forums.
The CPUC oversees utility services throughout California with a focus on consumer protection and reliable infrastructure provision. More information about its work is available at www.cpuc.ca.gov.
