The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has released three new educational videos aimed at helping the public better understand and participate in its proceedings. The videos are designed to assist individuals and organizations who want to learn more about issues before the CPUC or advocate as a party to a proceeding.
According to the CPUC, the first video explains how to use the Docket Card system, which provides access to information on decisions, motions, and comments that impact essential services in California such as energy, rail, telecommunications, transportation, and water. The video titled “How to Navigate the Docket Card System” offers step-by-step guidance for users interested in researching these topics.
A second video focuses on participation in policy and decision-making processes. The CPUC states that anyone can become a party to a proceeding, whether they are an individual or represent an organization. The video “How to Make Your Voice Heard” details this process.
The third video addresses communication rules for parties involved in CPUC proceedings. It covers ex parte communications—those that occur outside of public hearings or workshops—and clarifies compliance with the CPUC’s Rules of Practice & Procedure.
Kimberly Ellis, Public Information Officer II at the CPUC’s Business and Community Outreach division, said: “With the help of these new videos, you can bring your diverse perspective to CPUC proceedings to help ensure utility services are safe, reliable, and affordable for all Californians.”
These resources aim to encourage broader civic engagement by making it easier for Californians to research issues and participate in regulatory discussions that affect their daily lives.
