The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These geospatial data products allow users to create custom thematic maps using various data sources.
The 2025 updates introduce new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These include both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes identifying blocks that have been split since the 2020 Census. Users can link this data to the bureau’s current address count listing files.
Geospatial data provided in these releases includes legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries, as well as features like roads and hydrography. The geographic boundary data is compatible with future 2025 demographic datasets on the Census Bureau’s online platform, which enables visualization of census tabular data on a map.
While TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic statistics themselves, they include geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that users can connect to demographic information from the Census Bureau. For guidance on selecting the appropriate product, individuals are directed to visit the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau: “No news release associated with this product. Tip sheet only.”
