Cedars-Sinai has announced the appointment of Ravi Thadhani, MD, MPH, as executive vice president of Clinical Affairs and chief medical officer for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Health System. His new role will begin on October 15.
Thadhani will be responsible for overseeing clinical quality and safety, medical affairs, and standards of care across the health system. This includes Cedars-Sinai Medical Network, Cedars-Sinai Marina Hospital, and affiliated hospitals.
Thadhani is known internationally for his work in nephrology and preeclampsia. He has led a research lab with federal funding for over 25 years, focusing on kidney disease and developing diagnostics and treatments for preeclampsia.
His career began at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. From 2017 to 2019, he served as vice dean for Research and Education at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Thadhani succeeds Richard V. Riggs, MD, who will leave Cedars-Sinai at the end of 2025.
“Dr. Thadhani brings a wealth of organizational expertise to our evolving health system as well as academic excellence and clinical insight, and we’re thrilled to have him back home at Cedars-Sinai,” said Peter L. Slavin, MD, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Health System. “We look forward to his many contributions to medical innovation and world-class patient care as our health system evolves.”
During his earlier time at Cedars-Sinai starting in 2017, Thadhani worked on research that led to the development of the nation’s first FDA-approved diagnostic test for preeclampsia. He plans to rejoin this research team.
After leaving Cedars-Sinai in 2019, Thadhani returned to Harvard as professor of medicine before joining Emory University in 2022 as executive vice president for health affairs. At Emory, he also served as vice chair of the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors and executive director of Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center. During his tenure there, he helped improve financial performance while enhancing care access, quality measures, IT services, and supporting academic missions.
Thadhani has authored or co-authored more than 300 scientific papers published in leading journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and JAMA. He is a member of several professional societies including the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
“I’m honored to return to Cedars-Sinai, a place that has meant a great deal to me professionally and personally,” Thadhani said. “I’m eager to get back to work alongside a dedicated and talented team as we further shape the future of Cedars-Sinai Health System and healthcare overall.”
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is located in Los Angeles and was founded in 1902. Its current president is Thomas M. Priselac. The hospital operates a pediatric ward and serves as a training facility; it admitted over 50,000 patients in 2022.
