The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a warning to consumers regarding TRE House brand Magic Mushroom gummies, chocolate bars, and syrup. The department reports that these products contain synthetic psychedelic compounds that could lead to severe illness, hospitalization, or even death.

According to CDPH, laboratory testing revealed that the TRE House products contain an analogue of psilocin—a substance classified as a Schedule I drug by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Specifically, all tested products contained 4-Acetoxy-DET (4-Acetoxy-N,N-diethyltryptamine), and most also included 4-Acetoxy-DMT (4-Acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine). Both substances are illegal psychedelics.

“These food products have the potential to cause severe adverse health effects, including hospitalization and even death. The risk of misuse, overuse, or negative interactions with other medications is high, especially without oversight or consultation with medical professionals. They may be particularly dangerous for young children who may consume them under the assumption that these are typical candies and syrup,” the department stated.

While there have been no reported illnesses associated with these products so far, CDPH expressed concern about individuals seeking therapeutic benefits from psychedelic mushroom products who might face serious health risks if they consume TRE House items.

State officials are currently investigating both the brand owner in Chatsworth, California and their contract manufacturers. The affected TRE House items were labeled as containing a “Magic Mushroom Microdose Blend” and “Proprietary Nootropic Mushroom Blend.” Laboratory analysis confirmed that these chocolate bars contained synthetic mushroom-based psychoactive drugs. Over 1,000 pounds of TRE House brand gummies were embargoed and later voluntarily destroyed. Authorities indicated that those responsible could face civil or criminal penalties pending further investigation.

The specific TRE House brand items identified as adulterated include:

– Chocolate Bar (Peanut Butter flavor), 1.76 ounces
– Chocolate Bar (Chocolate Milk flavor), 1.76 ounces
– Chocolate Bar (Fruity Cereal flavor), 1.76 ounces
– Gummies (Watermelon Wonder flavor), 2.12 ounces
– Gummies (Sour Tropical flavor), 2.12 ounces
– Gummies (Strawberry Dream flavor), 2.12 ounces
– Syrup (Strawberry Gelato flavor), 4 ounces
