Anduril Industries has announced a $1 billion investment to build a new campus spanning Long Beach and Lakewood in Southern California. The facility will cover 1.18 million square feet and is expected to open in mid-2027. Anduril will maintain its headquarters in Costa Mesa while expanding its presence with this new site.
The new campus is projected to support about 5,500 direct jobs on-site, with additional employment generated indirectly through construction, security, and other supporting services. The facility will include laboratory space, prototype manufacturing areas, and workspaces for engineers and software developers.
Governor Gavin Newsom commented on the announcement: “Anduril’s world-class innovation and deep California roots are helping shape the next generation of America’s aerospace and defense industry. With this major investment, they are reinforcing California’s leadership in this critical sector, creating good-paying jobs and strengthening the state’s innovation ecosystem.”
Anduril Industries specializes in advanced defense technologies such as drones, missiles, robotic submarines, and autonomous fighter jets. The company employs around 7,000 people across 35 locations, with approximately half of those employees based in Southern California. This expansion adds to a growing network of aerospace and defense companies in the region that benefit from a skilled technical workforce and a long history tied to U.S. defense industries.
California is recognized as home to one-third of the nation’s space technology companies and employs more aerospace engineers and defense personnel than any other state. According to the California Jobs First Blueprint launched by Governor Newsom, aerospace & defense is considered an “accelerate” sector for growth within the state economy. This sector contributes an estimated $35 billion annually to California’s gross domestic product.
California continues to be one of the largest economies globally, leading the nation in business startups, venture capital investment, manufacturing output, agriculture production, population growth trends, and tourism spending.
