Amazon has announced significant improvements in workplace safety across its U.S. network, including sites in California. According to its 2024 safety performance data, the company experienced a 34% reduction in recordable injuries and a 65% decline in lost time incidents.

In its 2024 safety data, Amazon reported a 6% year-over-year improvement in its Recordable Incident Rate (RIR) and a 13% improvement in Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR). Over five years, RIR has decreased by 34%, and LTIR has dropped by 65% globally. These improvements are attributed to investments in technology, ergonomic redesigns, and site-level safety programs.

According to Amazon, the company received multiple industry recognitions for workplace safety innovation in 2024. These awards came from organizations such as the National Safety Council, Verdantix, and the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety. The honors highlighted technologies like ErgoPick, sensor-based trailer loading systems, and AI-enabled safety tools. The awards reflect ongoing contributions by Amazon employees to build and scale safety solutions.

Amazon reports that musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), such as strains and sprains, remain the most common workplace injuries across its network, accounting for 57% of all recordable incidents. To address this issue, the company has invested in ergonomic improvements like adjustable workstations and expanded robotics use to reduce repetitive motions. Since 2019, Amazon has achieved a 32% reduction in MSD-related recordable incident rates.

Amazon is a global logistics and technology company with business lines in e-commerce, cloud computing, and transportation. As of 2024, the company employs more than 1.5 million people worldwide. Its operations span over 2,500 facilities, including fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and sortation hubs.
